“Hello, hello, hello.” Trish says as I sit down in her chair.

“Hello,” I say, smiling.

“Hey, y'all.” She yells turning the chair around to face everybody. “This girl right here is hood royalty,” she says, pointing at me.

“This the girl Ghost calls himself settling down with?” one of them asks.

“Yes, ma'am.” Trish says.

“I'm Tameka but everybody calls me Meka.” The girl says sideways hugging me. “You real pretty. I see what everybody's been talking about now.”

“This must be the first time August has had a serious girlfriend, huh?” I ask.

“Ghost doesn't have girlfriends,” Trish says, spinning the chair back around. “He just has flavor of the weeks.”

“I'm starting to see that,” I say.

“You’re the first girl he's ever been serious about,” Meka says mixing a perm.

“Yeah,” Trish says. “It's good to see him finally happy.”

“You think so?” I ask.

“What? Him being happy?” She asks.

“Yeah,” I say.

“How long y'all been together?” she asks, starting on my hair.

“Almost seven months,” I say.

“If he wasn't happy he would've left you after the first week.”

“Thanks.”

“I'm just being honest. Not to be nosey, but weren't you pregnant?” She whispers.

“Yeah.” I sigh.

“You lost it?”

“Yeah.”

“I'm so sorry to hear that.”

“Thanks,” I say.

“No problem. I know exactly what you’re going through.”

“Really?”

“Yeah,” she says. “Lost my baby a couple months ago. Worst period of my life.”

“That's messed up.”

“I know,” she says. “How long has it been for you?”

“Not even a month,” I say.

“Now that's messed up.”

“Exactly.”

“I want to say it gets better, but shit, I'd be lying. I still take it day by day, and try to think my baby in a better place.”

“I try to keep busy,” I say.

“That too.” She laughs. “So, tell me something about you. “

“Well, what do you want to know?” I ask.

“Anything,” she says. “I need to get to know my future sis in law.”

“I'm eighteen.”

“Youngin’,” she says. “Hold off on getting married, girl. You too young. Plus, you wanna make sure he's the right one.”

“That's what I said, but you know August got a mind of his own,” I say.

“Do I,” she says. “I bet he drives you insane.”

“You don't even know the start of it,” I say. “I swear sometimes I could snap his neck.” I add, laughing.

“I'll just take this to go plate back to Jaz & Jae's since you feel that way, baby girl,” I hear August say.

“See what had happened was...” I trail off as I spin around in the seat to face him.

“Don't think I like you,” he says, handing me the plate. “Y'all better be done in the next hour or she getting left,” he adds before walking away.

“I really don't like him,” I say as I spin back around so she can finish my hair.

“Could've fooled me,” Trish says smirking.
